CARDIGAN

$10

The Connelly Cardigan features an all-over continuous braided cables stitch, reimagined with a modern take on top-down construction and a hybrid shoulder design.

Rooted in the age-old traditions of cable knitting, this stitch draws inspiration from the fisherman’s sweaters of the Aran Islands, where cables symbolized strength, interconnectedness, and the lifelines of the sea. While the stitch pattern does not have a single, definitive origin, it is most famously associated with the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland.

As we celebrate the new year, we honor this beloved hallmark of knitting heritage, which embodies the enduring spirit of creativity and the interconnectedness of traditions passed down through generations. The continuous braided cables stitch is the perfect complement to our tightly twisted Tov yarn.

NOTES

Cardigan is worked from the top down with a hybrid shoulder. Back collar is worked first, then back is flat to the underarm. Stitches are picked up along shoulders and back collar edge for fronts, with collar worked at the same time. After fronts are worked to underarm, body is worked flat to hem.
Sleeves are picked up around each armhole and worked in the round to the cuff. Pattern has two collar options, single collar and shawl collar. Choose the size with 8–16” / 20–40 cm of positive ease.
